SEVEN years after he turned his back on acting, Lost star Matthew Fox has finally revealed the reason why he quit.
In a candid chat, the 55-year-old admitted he had a “bucket list” of things he wanted to achieve in the business, and felt he’d completed it by the time he did the horror Western film Bone Tomahawk in 2014.
He added that he wanted to spend more time “re-engaging” with his family – wife Margherita and their children Byron and Kyle.
However, he’s been lured out of early retirement to appear in a new apocalyptic thriller TV series called Last Light, alongside Joanne Froggatt.
Matthew shot to fame as troubled surgeon Dr Jack Shepherd in Lost in 2004, and stayed on the show until its finale in 2010 – his last TV credit until now.
His performance saw him earn nominations for a Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy Award.
After Lost he landed film roles in We Are Marshall, alongside Matthew McConaughey, Vantage Point and World War Z.
In 2011, Matthew was accused of assaulting a female bus driver while drunk in Cleveland, Ohio while filming I, Alex Cross – a claim he vehemently denied.
While police didn’t press charges, the woman involved chose to pursue a civil case, which she later withdrew after Matthew threatened to counter-sue for slander and battery.
Matthew went on the Ellen DeGeneres show to publicly refute the allegations, admitting: “It’s been a very tough year for me and my family… It’s difficult to be accused of something you did not do.”
The incident appeared to ignite a feud with his Lost co-star Dominic Monaghan, who tweeted in 2012: “He beats women. Not isolated incidents. Often.”
Forced to defend himself again, Matthew wrote in Men’s Journal: “I have never hit a woman before. Never have, never will. But I think there’s still gonna be a lot of people out there who’ll think it’s true no matter what.”
Here we take a look at what the rest of the Lost cast have been up to since the cameras stopped rolling.
The actress played Kate Austin, a young woman who had killed her abusive father prior to the plane crash which kicked off the series.
Since Lost ended, Evangeline’s career has skyrocketed. She’s played Hope Van Dyne, aka Wasp, in Marvel flicks Ant-Man and Avengers: End Game, and gained critical acclaim for her role in The Hurt Locker in 2008.
She’s also a published children’s author, having penned The Squickerwonkers series.
When Lost finished filming, Evangeline announced she was taking a break to focus on her charity and humanitarian work, telling Vulture: “I consider acting a day job – it’s not my dream; it’s not my be-all, end-all.”
The 42-year-old came under fire in March 2020 when she shared a social media post about refusing to adhere to Covid-19 quarantine requirements.
Evangeline later apologised for her comments, calling them “dismissive, arrogant and cryptic”.
In January 2022, she joined a protest against vaccine mandates in Canada. Writing on social media, she ranted: “Nobody should ever be forced to inject their body with anything, against their will.”

In 2010, Ian was involved in the clean-up operation following the Deepwater Horizon oil drilling disaster. That same year he launched the Ian Somerhalder Foundation to educate people on the importance of protecting animals and the environment.
After a whirlwind six-month romance, Ian, now 43, proposed to Twilight actress Nikki Reed in 2015.

“I just loved alcohol and drugs,” he said, by way of explanation in an interview with The Guardian in 2008.
“Things that happen to you in your childhood, bad experiences, can inform you but don’t necessarily make you an alcoholic or a drug addict. You have to put the hours in and really work quite hard at abusing yourself.”
The actor said he always managed to wean himself off drugs and alcohol before a job, and eventually got clean and sober aged 29.
At the age of 16 he began dating his maths teacher, 30-year-old Geraldine Feakins, and moved in with her to escape his “repressive” upbringing. The couple welcomed a son seven years later, in 1992.
After splitting from Geraldine, he dated actress Barbara Hershey from 1998. While briefly separated in 2005, he had a son with Czech-French actress Elena Eustache.
Naveen and Barbara split for good in 2010 – a year after he was granted sole legal and physical custody of his son with Elena, following a lengthy battle.
After Lost he starred in Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, Sense8 and Instinct.
Emilie De Ravin
Emilie established herself as an actress playing pregnant crash survivor Claire Littleton on Lost.
After the show ended she went on to appear in films The Hills Have Eyes, Brick, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Remember Me, opposite Robert Pattinson.

A lover of the outdoors, Dominic once bought a mango-tree forest in India.
