GERONIMO the alpaca’s owner claimed a mini-victory yesterday — with her animal still standing after a week on death row.
Nearly 120,000 people have signed a petition backing Helen Macdonald in her row with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
Geronimo, has twice tested positive for bovine TB and last Thursday the Government issued a warrant to execute him within 30 days.
Defiant Helen, 50, of Wickwar, Gloucs, said: “This first week has been one of the toughest of my life but it feels like a significant milestone.
“We just have to keep ploughing on for the next few weeks now.
“Geronimo and I have gained incredible support but there’s more of this torment to come.”
Defra could arrive to shoot Geronimo any time.
Helen claims the results are false positives and is calling for another test.
She has a live webcam on his pen for supporters to watch. And 30 “alpaca angels” have arrived at the farm vowing to stop any cull.
Vet Helen added: “I don’t know what I’d have done without them.
“I’ve barely slept and keep staring at the gate waiting for them to arrive.”
